Dance on Camera

This workshop will take dancers through the ins and outs of prepping work for the screen whether for installations or cinemas. Dancers will learn how to storyboard, develop a shot list, speak with a cinematographer, hire the right production and postproduction crew, produce low to high budget material, and navigate the film festival market.

Art Activism

Questioning how to create art with a larger purpose? Explore how to merge your talents as an artist with a call-to-action that benefits society and/or the environment. Through exercises and guided tools, you will learn how to specify your voice as a creator. We will work together to home in on your audience, bring clarity to topics and wicked problems, and how to utilize story to inspire change. You will also develop ways to thread in specific call-to-actions, so audience members are able to take part in solutions for a better world.

Storytelling for Dancers

This workshop will work primarily on shaping characters within stories and develop practices to explore tonality of movement. With over 10 years of working in site-specific performance, physical and immersive theater, I will provide tools for you to embody complex stories while taking risks within your creations and performances. You will leave feeling confident to personify any character whether on stage, in auditions, on camera, or in immersive settings.

All workshops can be formatted for 2–7-day settings. Each day would involve a three-hour class.

TESTIMONIALS:

“Kelly Ashton Todd has a unique ability to both understand movement in immersive theatrical work as a dancer herself while also teaching tools and techniques as a choreographer that instantly elevates any work she touches. Her teaching style is instinctually engaging and encourages true and honest exploration of self. Kelly gave our ensemble more than just new skill sets and an understanding of immersive choreography through the training she provided, she gave them the subtle demand of excellence which carries onward in our work to this day.”

"Kelly's workshop gave me some really valuable tools to use when devising work. It not only made me aware of different devices to tell a clear story through movement, but how to put that into practice and create something specific, active, and honest."
- Jesse Carrey

"The art and activism both unite to speak Kelly's truth whilst challenging an apathy amongst us."
